Narrative Description:
This is a compact "Jacob’s ladder" variety that, as the cultivar name suggests, features purple tinted, green leaves and burgundy stems with clusters of slightly fragrant cobalt-blue flowers. Leaves appear ladder-like in structure, hence the common name. They have a stronger purple hue in cooler weather.
Ideal Conditions:
Prefers cool partial shade in the hottest summer months, with free draining soil or compost. Prefers rich, humusy, consistently moist soils that do not dry out.
Possible Situation:
Purplish foliage and blue flowers will brighten shady locations in borders, woodland gardens, cottage gardens or shade gardens.
